Does using the recovery software for the memory stick of a digicam render it useless?Or can it be reused?

No physical damage is done to the device. The recovery operation is read only.
Something went wrong that you needed to use it though, so I would treat the device as suspect. Most certainly after this mis-adventure I would use the camera’s menu system to format the card.

you need to buy one in the mean time
